Personal Information

1. Name, phone #, and e-mail: Nah, nevermind. I know this already...

2. What’s your major? What year will you graduate?
Photography. 2012

3. Why did you choose a photography class (or photography as a major), and what do you hope to learn from school in general and this class specifically?
I do not think that I chose photography, I think photography chose me.  By this I mean that since the very first time I picked up a camera it felt like I had been reunited with a  part of me that had been missing all of my life.  Through the lense there is onlyt the world I create, anything I imagine is possible in this world and the most exciting thing is that there is absolutely no limit as to how far I can take this. From this program I hope to take away the skills and knowledge that I need to effectively create the image that I see in my head for others to see, and be able to do it again and again.  Until now, I have relied on luck and good camera programming, and I have taken some really great pictures, but have as of yet I have very few photographs.
4. What are your goals after graduation? Please list your goals in reverse order, starting five years out, then three, two, one, and six months.
In five years I will be getting my Doctorate in Fine Arts and I will have a gallery and teach others the art of photography.  In two years I will have my B.S. in Photography and I plan to have networked and made a name for myself so that I will have no problem getting into graduate school.  In one year I plan to be far enough along in my studies so that I may effectively acquire an apprenticeship under a great photographer and better my understanding of photography on a daily basis.

5. What artists, musicians, photographers, writers, movies, books have influenced you/your work?
I would have to say that the inability, due to my upbringing, to experience beauty and art really sparked my interest but ultimately I would think that the series Planet Earth, shot in high speed high definition really sealed the deal. If you have not seen the series, go now and rent or buy it...it's amazing!

6. Where do you get information about current national and international events?
I enjoy the news at five am with my coffee.

7. Are there any important websites that you are referencing for art/photo competitions and/or information?
Not yet, but I plan, as I move along in my studies, to network and become extremely involved in the photo community.

8. What museums and/or galleries have you been to in the past year?
Unfortunately, I have not attended any formal functions but I see art everywhere I go, and I observe the small, obscure and almost invisable to a regular person beauty in almost every aspect of life..

9. Have you had any photo projects and/ or training in the past?
I took basic photography in high school.

10. What is the value of art for the artist?
To me, an artist does not see his/her work as art.  I see my work as an extention of self, a realization, if you will, of images in my head. We do the same as a writer or a baker, create something that appeals to us and reflects us.

11. What is the value of art for the audience?
This is a tricky question...To be successful an artist must not only have a personal style that stands above his/her competition, but he/she must also find a way to translate his/her thought and emotions and ideas in a appealing manner so that people not only understand it but ponder over it as well.   We just try to make the viewer feel the exact feeling we felt when we created it.

12. Is photography a vocation or an avocation?
I do not feel that, for me atleast, photography can be classafied into either categories.  If I had to narrow it down to one word, I guess it would be Passion...Photography is my passion.

13. What is your passion?
Photography, fishing, creating.

14.What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?
I am afraid of bees, I will run and scream like a little girl if one flys by me..It's quite funny to watch!
Not understanding my surroundings makes me uncomfortable.  New classes, new people, new towns,etc...

15. Do you have a passport?
Yes, but I lost it so I will have to get another.
